Regulation Changes

Generation owners are required by the Distribution Code to install loss of mains (LoM) protection at distributed generation sites.

This is to ensure that, following a fault that isolates sections of the distribution system to which they are connected from the rest of the electricity system, distributed generation does not form an autonomous power island with the remaining local demand.

Generators associated with the system after February 2018 that as of now use G59 should be upgraded to G59/4.

The explanation behind this update is due to the Loss Of Mains protection for existing Renewable Energy Generators. One of the fundamental advantages of this is to decrease the amount of tripping by relaxing the RoCoF limits.
